DON AND DUSTY... HOUSTON AND HUNTSVILLE.... STS6 AND STS8
Last night I was rereading one of my latest Downsizer Sandy blog posts. This post concerned the death of a cousin astronaut Don Peterson in El Lago Texas. Don Peterson had spacewalked with another crew member while up in space April 4 1983. National Geographic Mag Sept 83 shows them up there. They were testing the new air lock and space suits. He was on the STS6 launch.

they are .in Huntsville Alabama talking about one of their latest hauls for reselling on Ebay at the same time I was reviewing my blog post.. Dusty's estate haul was from boxes of papers of this person who had worked on the rocket motor that had been unopened for MANY years. Dusty was talking about Challenger,... STS8 in August 1983. This was the same time in life... Huntsville meets Houston meets Canav ral...in 1983.!!!
It struck me how even though the time and place and people were different … their lives were so connected by their thoughts, activities and success were so dependent on each other. yet unknown to each other.
I like watching Dusty enjoy his finds on his YouTube! I am approaching my 80th Bday in Sept and still get the same joy and happy buzz when I find things like he and Tristan do! Right up there with my joy of teaching 30 years!
YES.... THE INTERNET IS EXPANDING ALL THE TIME...but it is also shrinking our world...that we find connections between connected people, places and events that weren't even known when they occurred....
One of my old neighbors in Florida called these PARALLEL LIFE PATHS THAT DIDNT MEET TIL LATER.
YEP GIANT STEPS FORWARD ALL THE TIME AND SO MUCH FUN ON EBAY and YOUTUBE!....:)

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN ... DON PETERSON NASA
Years ago Cousin Bill fell in love and married June from Mississippi.
Good cooking, laughter, children
So much fun....
And then Family got invited to Cousin June's brother-in-law's launch into space from Florida.
Everyone got to go. But I didn't because back then teacher's didn't get leave unless they were near death. And it was during my years teaching in Year Round School I believe.
But I heard all the details and left my body and went with them spiritually.
So exciting!
Tales of seeing a lightning bolt travel across Africa is one of my favorite memories.
And if you have the old National Geographic Mags he was the one on the cover that showed him and the earth and the spacecraft while he was space walking.
Don Peterson was a kind, soft spoken man who made you feel like you had know him all your life
When JW and I visited our Texas cousins in the years we traveled before we moved to Florida we were invited to do a tour of Johnson Space Center with Don.
He would explain the stuff we saw and tell us what he did up there in the spacecraft areas as we looked at them.
It was so cool to watch other tourists walking by who would hear him telling us about his experience and by the time we finished we had quite a group!
Another special memory I cherish is him giving a phone interview to one of my grandsons up in Loudon County in his later retired years.
A while ago I was downsizing my paper pics while deciding which ones to pass on to our kids and which ones to toss. I came across the one shown above and decided to Google Don on Facebook to see how he was doing and sadly I found he has passed on this year also.
