A BALTIMORE MOTHER 3 SINGLE BIRTHS IN 22 MONTHS
I found this article today in Doris Rose's memory collection. It looks
like it was on one of the main pages of one of the Baltimore newpapers.
Baltimore people were/are notorious for saving articles/obituaries that
fascinated/interested them in precomputer years.
Wonder if Doris Rose who held this article in her memory collection for
all these years knew the mother.
Wonder if she just found the topic interesting.
The kids were born in 49, 50, and 51. All born in 23 months and 10
days!
We think we know
everything about our relatives we live with but when we become our family
archeologist we learn that is not the case!

WHO IS THOMAS NAST?
 This postcard that I
came across while searching for my Postcard Traveler Blog postcards took me back
to when I was a kid and read and read my old children's books. I thought : This
illustration was so much like the pics in those books. I loved the figures,
feelings, colors! But they kinda creeped me out and yet fascinated me with their
expressions, big heads, dark shadows. They made me wonder if they were afraid or
what the heck was going on. So after looking on the back and seeing that the
illustration was by Thomas Nast I started my "internet rabbit chasing" on Thomas
Nast and was really impressed with the accomplishments of this man and the
interesting details of his life. He was called the father of the American
Cartoon.

ALMOST HEAVEN POSTCARD TRAVELER STOP 17 HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY FLORIDA

STOP 17 HOME SWEET HOME HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY FLORIDA
OK... Fellow
Postcard Travelers...
We're back
on our internet journey to all the counties in the United States.
We are
making stop 15 in Hillsborough County Florida!
Feels great to be on the postcard
road again...except that I was already here in my beloved home.
Established in
1834.
County Seat:
Tampa
Formed from
Alachua and Monroe Counties.
Hernando de Soto
led expeditions in this area looking for gold. Natives repulsed Spanish attempts
to inhabit.
In 2010 it was
the fourth most populous county in Florida.
Tampa is the 7th
largest port in the nation. In the 1880s there were sudden turns in its economy
for the better when phosphate was discovered and is still a major
export.
The county was
named for Wills Hill, the Earl of Hillsborough and British Secretary of State
for the counties from 1768-1772.
Hillsborough
County was originally much larger and included 8 other present day
counties.
It is the 32nd
most populous county in the United States.
Henry B. Plant's
railroad in 1882 connected this area to the nation's railroad system. Then there
were more goods coming in and going out. Tourism increased.
Ybor cigars have
an interesting history here.
In the early 20th
century cigar making and agriculture dominated the economy.
In 2011 the
largest crop by value was strawberries- over 388 million dollars. You can't
beat one of the strawberry treats sitting out at a place like Goodson Farms in
the winter in mild temperatures on a sunny day.
Hillsborough has
the eighth largest school district in the U.S.
The Civil War
Reconstruction period was hard on the Tampa area.
There was snow
here a couple of times like in the Great Blizzard of 1889.
MacDill Air Force
Base is here and is a major employer.
Egmont State Park
can only be reached by boat or ferry.
Busch Gardens is
here.
So are the Alafia
State Parks.
Lithia Springs in
the largest natural spring in Florida.
George
Steinbrenner and Hulk Hogan are known for being here.
The postcard
above is listed by Ebay's seller "Caseys" . It shows one of my favorite personal
sights I enjoy when going through Tampa. Check it out here:

THE HEAD OF THE POOL GANG!
Yep! Here she is.... The Bingo number caller (very important...deciding who won if two called out Bingo at the same time!) who would get the Dollar Tree Store prizes!
... Head of the decisions as to when we swam and , when we ate (tough decision the early hungry ones who didn't like swimming tried many times to get her to stop the swimming earlier!
...She led the big decisions as to what everyone would bring to eat the following week!
She ruled the Pasadena pool world until one day the Geriatric Pool Gang quietly voted her out when she wasn't there and Eric was there and he was voted in as the head man! But she watched him closely making sure he did as well as she had done!

SILVERTONE ARROWHEADS
I like the simplicity of this necklace and the shininess of the silvertone color of the arrowhead pendant as well as its texture. The arrowhead is about 1 1/2 inches from tip to top where chain goes through.

VINTAGE CLEAR PLASTIC JEWELRY
I used to love to
look at this kind of jewelry when I was a kid and try to figure out how they
got the flower in there. I loved the clearness of the plastic and of the flower
inside. Besides jewelry pieces family members also had holders that sat on top
of the dressers with yellow roses inside them. I still love just looking at
vintage clear plastic pieces!
This lot is looking
for a new home. Check it out here if interested:http://www.ebay.com/itm/Estate-Vintage-Clear-Lucite-Flower-Pendant-Necklace-18in-amp-Screw-Earrings-/291264093145?

SOMETHING OLD.... SOMETHING SHINY....
VINTAGE ESTATE SILVERTONE NECKLACE WITH STONES OF TWO DIFFERENT COLORS
This piece of
estate vintage jewelry comes from a Maryland Estate. It has been sitting in a
box in a drawer in my house and not used for over 10 years. Before that I have
no history of use or age.
I have not listed
many jewelry pieces that have the shinyness of new necklaces in its silvertone
pieces that hold the stones and also have the darkening from age of the chains
on both ends of the necklace.
I wish this
jewelry piece could talk!
You can buy it here on Ebay:
